MARIA

Overview and Objectives


During my Junior design internship at Peter & Paul, the team challenged me to ideate and develop an early stage brand identity for a new Italian restaurant called "Maria" Set to open on Wellington Street, the restaurant is a personal project for Jack Wakelin and Tom ‘Ronnie’ Aronica, taking inspiration from Ronnie’s Sicilian heritage for what will become their first city centre venture.


The restaurant is inspired by Italian trattorias and southern European cooking, and is named after Ronnie’s grandmother, whose influence can be felt through the venue’s ethos.


I was honoured to speak to all the talented individuals at Peter & Paul and gain insight as to how the agency runs. Additionally I had the opportunity to present not only my final designs but also my execution, strategy and ideas to the P&P team.



Challenges


  • Developing a distinctive brand symbol that felt relevant to trattoria but unique and personal was challenging.

  • Creating a cohesive visual system and making sure the illustrations and graphics connected to the brandmark.
